Doug Nelson, B.Comm. (hons.), CFP, CLU, CIM

Doug has successfully transitioned his business from a "commission only" to what is primarily a "fee only" model.  He was able to complete this transition over a 3 year period of time in such a way that his income continued to rise each year.  Doug moved his business in this direction for three specific reasons:  a) he wanted to create a stream of income that would be based on providing a consistent service rather than a specific type of product, b) he wanted his income / revenue to be consistent and resistant from the fluctuations of the stock market and c) he wanted to create an approach that would eliminate conflicts of interest with the client.  Doug wanted to create a system whereby he could move clients into very defensive securities without this move affecting his income.  Needless to say, when the market downturn arrived in 2008, Doug was ready.  Doug's clients were invested defensively and so was Doug's business.

Doug is a top-rated industry speaker and author with the Knowledge Bureau.  He is the author of Master Your Retirement:  How To Fulfill Your Dreams with Peace of Mind.  Doug is a regular contributor to local and National media which includes a 2009 interview on BNN.
